Leadership style we’re seeing…
I struggle to balance discussions of geopolitics and international affairs with my overflowing happiness, and personal and professional endeavors. But those are important aspects of what I do and what I’ve studied for decades, therefore it’s bizarre for me not to share my thoughts on these matters. Carrying on life as others are having theirs taken or forever altered, which is the horrendous situation in Ukraine, is uncomfortable. A friend said to me, what’s transpiring is more mass murder than war. It’s a scramble for power, and the cost is staggering. Is this the leadership the people of the world want?
Taking it up a level, reflecting on the style of leadership this world tolerates, and even embraces, baffles me: chest-pounding, megalomaniacs, instead of strong, rational, compassionate people focused on creating a better tomorrow for our children. Too often we revere those destroying, and not those building it up. Throughout time, people bear the consequences of this, many unaware of their own ability to create change. It’s a torturous cycle. A true leader doesn’t dictate orders from a throne; a true leader is with her/his institutions and people.
